The Central Solar Science Vessel Aeolus was a massive Atlas Moth-class cruiser commissioned by the Jovian navy for the purposes of exploring the far reaches of the Solar system. It called for a skeleton crew of twenty people, with a full complement of over one hundred individual crewmembers and berths for twenty to thirty passengers or observers, with the remaining space taken up by cryogenic stasis cells, cutting-edge science, life support and administration facilities. The vessel boasted one of the largest and most powerful wave inception systems ever designed, and almost bankrupted the planetary authority in the process of paying out the contracts required to construct it.
Unfortunately within six months of the shakedown voyage, the Aeolus plotted a regulation wave jump to a minor celestial oddity, spooled its drive, and vanished, presumed lost with all hands. To this date it plagues the far extremities of the Oort cloud as a ghost ship, but all reasonable conclusions point to a catastrophic failure and the total loss of the vessel and everyone aboard her.
