Codex is the name of an inter-sector research and publication group responsible for some of the most reliable and generally semi-unbiased political, social and tourism-based reports in human space. They employ a wide, diverse network of researchers and reporters across all known habitats, aiming to produce an up to date, useful, practical guide to day to day life across the Solar system. As their main offices are based above Saturn, they make free use of artificial intelligence in processing the vast amount of incoming material they receive from field agents every day.

Codex publications are so ubiquitous that the codex implant, an invaluable datamining and research tool in wide use across Sol, is assumed to be owned and produced by Codex itself. While this is not the case, and there are dozens of brands responsible for producing and selling codex implants, many of them have capitalized on the assumption and offer free access to the Codex databases via their products.
